Now a classic winning trainer Tom has continued his success at Manor House Stables and cemented himself as one of the top trainers in the UK with some of the best facilities on offer.
Ed Walker – Trainer
Ed started training in October 2010 where he made an immediate impact when saddling RIGGINS as his first runner to win the Listed Hyde Stakes at Kempton. A fairy-tale start for Ed having been associated with the horse for four years whilst assistant to Luca Cumani and buying him for just 18,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Horses In Training Sales.
Since 2010 Ed’s career has gone from strength to strength and he’s trained many notable group winners along the way, STORMY ANTARCTIC, AEOLUS, LIGHTNING MOON & RUSCELLO are just a few success stories to mention.
It should not be a great surprise that Ed has made a brilliant start to his career having been educated by the likes of Luca Cumani, Roger Charlton & Hong Kong based trainer Richard Gibson.
Ed has built a very experienced and talented team around him, he’s recently secured the purchase of the stunning Kingsdown Stables in Lambourn. Ed and his team will be moving to Lambourn in December 2016, we’re delighted to be adding Ed to our trainer ranks as he embarks on this exciting stage in his career.
Marco Botti – Trainer
In less than ten years, Marco Botti has quickly established himself as one of Britain’s leading trainers with a reputation for fielding high-class challengers in the world’s biggest races. Marco also boasts an admirable strike -rate with his runners at home, where he has been champion all-weather trainer.
International Group and Grade 1 victories with Euro Charline, Excelebration, Tac De Boistron, Joshua Tree and Gitano Hernando have been backed up by a strong supporting cast which includes Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes winner Moohaajim, Group 2 stakes winner Al Thakhira, American St Leger 2012 and Gr 2 Dubai City of Gold winner Jakkalberry, American St Leger 2013 winner Dandino plus the consistent Group performer Planteur, who was third in the 2013 and 2012 Dubai World Cup. Excelebration also gave Marco his first Classic victory when winning the German 2,000 Guineas in 2011 – the list of winners goes on!
Such sustained success in the world’s biggest races led to Marco being voted international trainer of the year at the 2012 HWPA Derby Awards.
Marco was bred to succeed in racing. His father Alduino has been champion trainer in Italy for more than 30 years, while Marco’s brother Stefano is also a leading trainer in Italy. In addition to learning at home with his family, Marco has also spent time working for leading trainers Luca Cumani, Ed Dunlop and Saeed Bin Suroor before embarking on his own training career.
In 2013, Marco and his wife Lucie, a former jockey and key member of the team, moved into their brand new custom built yard, Prestige Place. Based in the heart of Newmarket, Prestige Place boasts some of the best facilities in the town and is well positioned to take full advantage of the first-class turf & all-weather gallops that Newmarket has to offer.
George Scott – Trainer
It was always going to be a career in racing for George – The love of a horse runs in his blood, as does an affinity with Newmarket whereby he starts his training career. It goes back to the 1920’s & 30’s where his great grandfather trained a string of 40 horses in Newmarket, was it ever in doubt then, that George would develop a burning passion for racehorses!
George, a former point-to-point rider himself started life with champion trainer Paul Nicholls where he was privileged to work with horses such as Big Bucks. After his stint with Paul he served his time as pupil assistant to Mark Tompkins and assistant to Michael Bell. Those were times that George will never forget, not least because of his day-to-day involvement with Wigmore Hall, the two-time grade one winner who George rode out every day.
George was very keen to broaden his knowledge so in 2012 he moved to America to work for Eddie Kenneally in Keeneland, after a successful year he then moved to California where he joined Simon Callaghan. The American adventure was then cut short after he received a call from Lady Cecil to serve as assistant at Warren Place following the death of the great Sir Henry Cecil. George’s time at Warren Place included the three Group 1 victories of Noble Mission, including that memorable and emotional Champion’s Day success in 2014.
In 2015 after serving 2-years at Warren Place, George made the move to set up training in his own name at Saffron Stables in Newmarket, where he plans to continue competing at a similarly high level. George has had a fantastic first season in 2016 sending out 15 winners to date from just 80 runs – A brilliant strike rate!
Excel Racing are delighted to have George on board as one of our trainers for 2016 and beyond.
Warren Greatrex – Trainer
Firmly established as one the UK’s most up-and-coming trainers, Warren’s results have been quite remarkable since he saddled his first runner in August 2009.
During the 2013/2014 national hunt season Warren recorded 43 winners which is extraordinary because he done this with just 47 individual horses. No trainer can boast a yard that contains 11 unbeaten bumper winners! Warren’s record in bumper races is outstanding – one that would be the envy of any of his peers.
Warrens results on the racecourse have continued to flourish over the last few seasons as he’s consistently trained over 50 winners every year at his Lambourn base since 2013. In 2015 Warren landed his first Grade One winner at Cheltenham when Cole Harden won The World Hurdle in impressive style. Since 2015 Warrens landed further Grade One success with One Track Mind winning the Stayers Hurdle at Punchestdown in 2016.
